First Race of the Season DONE!-11 weeks till Ironman

Always finish with a smile on your face!

First Race of the season under my belt! So first things first- a confession, my last blog was all about getting more rest, and I didn’t exactly succeed. For those of you that may not be aware, I am splitting my time between our Blitz Calgary and Edmonton locations. Last week saw me coming back into Edmonton early Monday morning training into the late evening, have very early mornings and more late evenings, leaving me quite exhausted by Wednesday evening as I was on my way back to Calgary. … [Read more...]

Sleep- who needs it? I DO! -12 weeks to Ironman!

swim

This week was a swim focused training week. My next couple weeks are all focusing on one discipline at a time. The swims left me feeling pretty tired and I was grateful for a rest day on Wednesday, but even with some time off I still felt pretty beat. Food was a main focus for me last week. At the beginning of the week I made sure to do some grocery shopping and get stocked up- I paid close attention to my carb intake and had some lovely protein packed dinners in the evenings. I still felt … [Read more...]

What’s not to love about a rest week?! In one sense, on a rest week you can’t help this feeling of ‘I should be doing more’ but in the end when you start up your next week of training, its amazing how great you can feel! Last week I felt like I finally got the chance to breathe again- although it didn’t really hit me until Thursday.  Coming off a pretty big week, the week before I was surprised how long it took me to really recover, both physically and mentally This is the sort … [Read more...]

Sometimes you just need to press RESET

stress-2

This past week was a tough one, I’m not going to beat around the bush about it. I took one look at my training schedule, and thought ‘how am I going to do this’?  It was a peak week in my schedule and the hours and mileage were a bit intimidating.  All I could think was- holy cow its begun, my life from now and for the next 3 months is going to be, training, work, eat, sleep.  And then I became frustrated with myself, thinking of course it is, you knew this when you signed up for … [Read more...]

Breakfast muffins

egg breakfast muffins

Breakfast for the week! Egg Muffins! I mentioned these in my last blog! I found the recipe on pinterest and they have been a life saver! Ingredients: 15 eggs (for silicone muffin pans, use 12 eggs for metal muffin tins or individual silicone cups. You can use less egg yolks and more egg white if you prefer.) 1-2 tsp. chopped garlic 1-2 cups grated low fat cheese (I like sharp cheddar or a blend of cheddar/Jack cheese, use less cheese if using meat) Optional, but highly … [Read more...]

Taking it One Step at a Time- Step 1: FOOD

photo-35

You hear it all the time- what commitment and training for an Ironman entails- hours of training, lots of sleep, the disappearance of free time. The biggest struggle for me so far has been getting back into the swing of things post-Africa. Of course I had all sorts of plans to train while I was in Cameroon, I even sourced out areas that were safe for running, had a chaperone that was ready to accompany me if need be. Our hotel was equipped with a 25m pool, it was all there, I was ready to keep … [Read more...]

THANK YOU Blitz Community!

The Blitz Team!

On behalf of the Etisah Foundation I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank every member of our Blitz community that has generously donated this past month by purchasing one of our 1 for 1 T-shirts! Not only will each child at the Save the Children Alliance orphanage receive an amazing gift from a person in our community, all of the money raised through the sale of the t-shirts is going towards finishing a brand new orphanage for the children, that will allow for the current owner and … [Read more...]

28 weeks to Ironman Canada

baby

TRAINING VS LIFE. I can't believe it but it has almost been 20 weeks since I registered for Ironman Canada. It has been an interesting road so far. Since January I have been committing myself to 2 a day training schedule and even a couple 3 a day lately. My week right now involves incorporating 2-3 training sessions into my weekdays accompanied by at least 1 a day on Saturday and Sunday with one day off a week .  This is on top of my normal work schedule and my volunteer commitments. Am I … [Read more...]

It's that time of year! Spring is (hopefully) creeping up on us, and many endurance athletes, both those new to the sport and veterans are kicking up their training programs into high gear for the first races of the season. Endurance sports such as marathons, triathlons, cycling etc... require many hours and kilometers on the road, in the pool, on the bike, and in the gym. Energy is key when training for long distances, there is no use trying to run 15km+ no matter how fit you are if … [Read more...]

Amy’s Turkey Patties

photo-11

Ground Turkey Patties. The other day I was looking for a new way to utilize the ground turkey I had in my freezer. So often I am looking for ways to have something that I can make on Sunday night and have as a quick grab and go during the week! It helps me to continue to eat clean even when I might not have time to cook during the week. The nice thing about these is that they don’t take long to cook and you can store them in your fridge to have with a salad or steam up some frozen … [Read more...]
